OK, granted, I am no Robert Parker (or whichever wine celebrity you choose to follow), but I like to try different wines and see what I have been missing.  A wine that was recommended to me was a Rombauer Zinfandel from Napa.  At $30 per bottle it is a little pricey for my blood, but thought I would give it a try.  The vintage was 2008.  It practically burst from the bottle with fruity, jammy aromas.  Blackberry and black cherry were evident to me.  The wine was velvety in the mouth, tannic, yet smooth; however, there was a significant detraction (in my opinion) that would lead me to not purchase another bottle of this wine — alcohol.  This wine oozed alcohol.  At 15.9% alcohol, it was over the top.  The “hotness” of the wine overpowered the fruit, so much so that all I tasted was the alcohol.  I was disappointed to say the least.  It had such potential and yet, as Maya said in ‘Sideways’, “I think they overdid it.”
