Well, a follow up article in the Detroit News indicated that the MSU extension service would be spared, but effort would be re-directed toward the “green” industry.  What exactly “green” means is very vague and the article did not elaborate.  At any rate it is good news.  I suspect that extension personnel in the areas of horticulture and agriculture won’t be axed, but they may have a shift in priorities.  I don’t know what will happen to other services the extension service provides, like 4-H, Family and Consumer Services, etc.  It is a wait and see game at this point.
